What is Sunday lunch without rice and chicken curry? Sundays are definitely lazy mornings but everyone is craving delicious food. This is the time for this absolutely mouth-watering Lahori Chicken Gravy. A gravy cooked to perfection bringing out the flavours and aroma of simple spices combined with the delicious Zorabian Chicken Lahori Tikkas to bite into.

The Chicken Lahori Story

The Chicken Lahori is a dish that originated in Lahore, Pakistan. It is a very popular dish that is savoured both as part of homemade cuisine as well as street food. The Chicken Lahori Gravy is unique in a way as it includes both tomatoes as well as curds to make perfect gravy. Let us get started with making a silky smooth gravy with Zorabian Lahori Tikka that blends in perfectly and adds to the taste of the dish even more.

Ingredients to make the Chicken Lahori Gravy

  • Zorabian Lahori Chicken Tikka: 1 pack (500 gms) (cook the tikkas and keep aside)
  • Onion: 2 (make a paste)
  • Tomato: 1 big (make a puree)
  • Ginger garlic paste: 1 tbsp
  • Green chillies: 2 slit
  • Kashmiri red chilli powder: 1 tbsp
  • Turmeric powder: 2 pinches
  • Coriander powder: 1 tbsp
  • Pepper powder: ½ tsp
  • Garam masala powder: ¾ tsp
  • Curd: 2 tbsp
  • Coriander leaves chopped: 2 tbsp for garnish
  • Ginger juliennes: 1 tbsp
  • Oil: 2 tbsp

Method for making Chicken Lahori Gravy

  1. Take a pan and add 2 tbsp oil. Add the onion paste and cook for 2-3 mins till the onions are slightly cooked and golden in colour.
  2. Now add the ginger garlic paste and tomato paste and saute. Add salt and the turmeric, kashmiri chilli powder and coriander powder. Cook tomato paste and masalas well. You may add a few tbsp of water so that the masala does not get burnt. The raw smell should disappear and the oil will eventually start separating from the sides.
  3. Now add in the cooked Zorabian Chicken Lahori Tikka and mix well. Add ¼th cup water if required. Cover and cook for 4 to 5 minutes till the gravy and the Lahori tikka are well blended and the tikka soaks in the flavours of the gravy and vice versa.
  4. Open the pan add the curd little by little and keep stirring so that the curds do not split. Cook for a few more minutes till all is well cooked.
  5. Add in the garam masala powder and mix well.
  6. Transfer into a serving dish and garnish with chopped coriander leaves, ginger juliennes and sliced green chillies.
